What is Date Difference Calculator?
The difference between two calendar dates can be expressed in two ways: as a calendar span (years, months, days) or as a plain number of days. This calculator gives both, along with weeks plus remaining days and the count of Monday to Friday weekdays.
The calendar span is computed by adding whole months to the earlier date, clamping to the end of a shorter month, then counting the remaining days: from 31 January 2024 to 1 March 2025 it is 1 year, 1 month and 1 day. Any time-of-day in the input is ignored, and an option counts the end date too.
How does it work?
- Enter the start date and the end date, for example 2024-01-31 and 2025-03-01.
- Set the numeric date order if you use dates like 03/04/2024.
- Tick "inclusive" to count the end date as a full day, and keep the weekday count enabled if you need working days.
- Read the years/months/days, total days, weeks and weekdays.

Frequently asked questions
How are months counted when the start day is the 31st?
Whole months are added to the start date and clamped to the last day of the target month. From 31 January, one month reaches 29 February 2024 (or 28 in other years), and remaining days are counted from there.
What does the inclusive option change?
It counts the end date as a full day, so the totals grow by one day. It suits contract periods where both first and last day are included.
Does it use the time of day?
