Your files never leave your browser
The workbook you choose is read and processed by JavaScript running on your own device. It is not uploaded, stored or logged, and no cell value is sent to analytics. Once a tool page has loaded it keeps working even if you disconnect from the network.
Large workbooks are processed in a background thread so the page stays responsive. If a file is big you will see a notice that it may take longer to process locally; the tool never falls back to uploading it.
Supported files
Workbooks in .xlsx, .xlsm, .xls and .ods format can be opened, along with .csv and JSON for the tools that convert to Excel. Formulas are never executed: a formula cell is exported as the last value Excel saved for it, and macros are ignored. Each file can be up to 50 MB.
Common workflows
Cleaning a supplier export usually means Excel to CSV, then removing duplicates, then back to Excel. Feeding a spreadsheet to an API is Excel to JSON. Combining twelve monthly reports is Merge Excel Files, and checking what a colleague changed is Compare Excel Files.

Frequently asked questions
Is my Excel file uploaded to a server?
No. The file is opened and converted inside your browser and is never sent anywhere. You can check this by switching off your connection after the page has loaded: the tools keep working.
Which spreadsheet formats can I use?
The tools open .xlsx, .xlsm, .xls and .ods workbooks, and .csv or JSON where a tool converts them to Excel. Password-protected workbooks cannot be opened.
Are formulas calculated?
No. Formulas are treated as data and never executed. When a formula cell is converted, you get the value Excel saved the last time the file was calculated. The formula tools on this page only explain or build formula text.
Is there a size limit?
Each file can be up to 50 MB, which is well beyond most business spreadsheets. Very large workbooks take longer because your own device does the work.
