What is JSON to Excel Converter?

APIs, logs and exports usually speak JSON, while analysts and clients want a spreadsheet. This converter validates your JSON with a strict parser, turns an array of objects into rows, and writes a real .xlsx file that Excel, LibreOffice and Google Sheets open directly.

Columns are the union of all keys in order of first appearance, nested objects can be flattened into address.city style columns, and arrays are written as JSON text or joined with semicolons. Numbers stay numbers, true and false stay booleans, null becomes an empty cell, and long integer IDs stay text so no digit is lost.

How does it work?

  1. Paste your JSON, or use the open-file button to load a .json file from your computer.
  2. Set the sheet name and choose whether to include a header row, flatten nested objects and convert ISO dates.
  3. Click "Create .xlsx file" and check the table preview and the row and column counts.
  4. Download data.xlsx. If the JSON is invalid, the message tells you the line and column to fix.

Limitations

One sheet is written per conversion, and Excel allows at most 1,048,576 rows, 16,384 columns and 32,767 characters per cell. Deeply nested arrays of objects are kept as JSON text rather than exploded into extra rows.

Frequently asked questions

What JSON shapes are supported?

An array of objects is the main case. An array of arrays becomes rows as they are, a single object becomes one row, and an object whose values are all arrays can be written as one column per key.

Why did a long ID stay as text?

Excel stores numbers with about 15 significant digits, so an integer such as 12345678901234567890 would be rounded. Integers longer than 15 digits are written as text to keep every digit, and a warning tells you how many.

How are dates handled?

ISO strings such as 2025-03-01 stay text by default. Tick "Convert ISO dates to Excel dates" to turn dates and date-times (with or without a trailing Z) into real Excel dates with a date format.

Is my JSON sent anywhere?

No. Parsing and workbook creation both happen in your browser tab, so API responses containing customer or internal data never leave your device.
