Two rows are duplicates when these columns hold the same values. Use column letters (A, C-E), header names (Email) or 1-based numbers (2), separated by commas.

What is Remove Excel Duplicates?

Exports, mailing lists and merged reports pile up repeated rows: the same customer twice, the same invoice line pasted again. This tool reads the sheet you pick, compares each row on all columns or only the ones you name, and keeps a single row for every group of duplicates.

You decide whether the first or the last occurrence survives, whether "ADA" and "ada" are the same, and whether stray spaces count. Values are compared as displayed text, so the number 1 and the text "1" match. The cleaned sheet replaces the original one in the downloaded workbook, the other sheets stay untouched, and a panel lists the removed rows with their original row numbers.

How does it work?

  1. Drop the workbook (up to 50 MB); pick the sheet with the selector if it has several.
  2. Tick whether the first row is a header, and type the columns that define a duplicate (A, C-E, a header name or a number), or leave it empty to compare whole rows.
  3. Choose to keep the first or the last occurrence, and set the case and whitespace options.
  4. Check the counts and the list of removed rows, then download the cleaned .xlsx.

  • Removing invoice lines that were pasted twice while merging monthly exports.

Limitations

Only values and number formats are kept in the cleaned sheet: formulas become their last calculated value and styles, charts and macros are dropped. Rows that differ only in spelling or accents are not treated as duplicates.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove duplicates based on one column only?

Type that column in "Columns to compare", for example B, Email or 2. Two rows count as duplicates as soon as that column is identical, whatever the other columns contain, and the row you chose to keep stays.

Is the header row ever removed?

No. With "First row is a header" ticked the first row is always kept and never compared. Untick it if your sheet has no header, and the first row is then checked like any other.

Which row numbers are shown for the removed rows?

The row numbers of the original sheet, as Excel displays them, so you can look them up in your source file. Only the first 100 removed rows are listed, although all of them are removed from the file.
