What is SHA-384 Hash Generator?
SHA-384 belongs to the SHA-2 family. It is SHA-512 run with different starting values and truncated to 384 bits (96 hex characters). Because of the truncation it resists length-extension attacks that affect SHA-256, and it is the default hash of many TLS cipher suites and of the ECDSA P-384 curve.
This tool encodes your input as UTF-8 (or reads hex bytes), hashes it with a WebAssembly SHA-384 and prints the digest in hex or Base64, which is the format used in Subresource Integrity attributes.
How does it work?
- Enter your text; the digest appears while you type.
- Select the input type and choose hex or Base64 output.
- Copy the digest. "abc" gives cb00753f45a35e8bb5a03d699ac65007…
Common use cases
- Generating the "sha384-…" value of a Subresource Integrity attribute for a script or stylesheet snippet.
- Matching a SHA-384 checksum published for a firmware or container image.
- Testing a library that offers HMAC-SHA384 or ECDSA P-384 signing.
- Comparing digests when a spec requires 192-bit security strength.

Privacy
SHA-384 Hash Generator runs entirely in your browser. The text or files you provide are processed on your device and are not uploaded, logged or stored on our servers.
Limitations
A bare SHA-384 is not a password hash: it is fast and unsalted. Use a dedicated password-hashing function for credentials.
Frequently asked questions
How does SHA-384 differ from SHA-512?
Same construction and internal state size, but different initial values and a truncated 384-bit output. The two digests of the same input are unrelated.
Which SRI algorithm should I use?
Browsers accept sha256, sha384 and sha512. SHA-384 is the commonly recommended balance between digest size and strength.
How many characters is a SHA-384 hex digest?
96 hexadecimal characters (48 bytes), or 64 Base64 characters without padding.
